Do You Need A Medical Alert System?

Answer the following questions with a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’:

1. Do you live alone?

2. Do your loved ones worry about your well-being when you are home alone?

3. Is it important to you to continue living independently?

4. Do you have any of the following conditions? Heart Condition? Stroke? Diabetes? COPD? Osteoporosis? Arthritis? (This counts as one answer.)

5. Are you 65 years of age or older?

6. Are you worried about safety in your shower?

7. Do you live with a spouse who is over 65?

8. Have you fallen in or around your house?

9. Do you worry about falling in the house and not being able to reach the phone?

10. Have you been hospitalized or visited the emergency room in the past 2 years?

11. Do you use a cane, walker, wheelchair, stair climber or other device to help with balance or walking?

Count your ‘Yes’ answers to see if you need a medical alert system.

0-2 — Not Required
Your health and living situation don’t require a medical alert system, but it can provide peace of mind against the unexpected.

3-5 — Moderate Need
You are at a risk for a fall or other incident. A medical alert system helps ensure that aid can get to you quickly.

6-8 — Highly Recommended
Several factors put you at a fairly high risk of a fall or other incident. To maintain your independence, a medical alert system is highly recommended.

9-11 — Urgent Need
You are at a very high risk of an incident requiring medical attention. A medical alert system is strongly advised.
